Choosing a TradesmanWhen it comes to choosing a tradesman alot of people do not know where to start. It can be difficult to find tradesman who can do the work you want and who you would trust in your home. First you need to find some tradesman to interview and who will quote on your job. This can be done through the yellow pages, referrals from friends or better yet from an online trade directory which have extensive listings of local tradesman. These should include Plumbers, electricians, Bricklayers, Carpenters, Tilers, Painters etc.
It is important to use a tradesman who is experienced in the type of job you want done. For example say you are looking for a plumber, Some plumbers do mainly drainage work or even gasfitting so they have less knowledge on how to correctly do stack work inside a house. Because of this it is important to use tradesman who have the experience in the type of work you want done. So it is important to ask them have they done this type of job before and how did it go. Next it is important to ask for references from the tradesman that they can give you. These should be from past clients who have been happy with their work. Always check and call the people listed in the reference or testimonials as some people are not 100% honest. Next you need to select 2 - 4 tradesman and ask them to do you up a quote on the work you want done. Do not fall for the mistake of having them work on an hourly rate. This mostly ends in disaster because your bill is suddenly twice what you where quoted by another tradesman. I speak from experience here. Always get the quote in writing and get as much of the job as possible described in detail. This is important because sometimes what you thought was included in the quote is suddenly not once the job is started. Once you have the quotes compare them and choose the most suitable tradesman. Make sure you are comfortable with them. Also make sure they include rubbish removal in the quote. As some tradesman leave their rubbish behind which is terrible but they do it anyway. What i mean is they leave it on the floor next to where they were working they do not even put it in the bin.
Choose wisely and you will benefit from the result. |
